When a document is encountered at a crime scene it will typically be provided to Questioned Document Examiners and Fingerprint experts for analysis. Due to the different techniques used by both departments it is important to establish the correct sequence of analysis to avoid the loss of any evidence.
In a new application note, produced internally by Foster + Freeman product application experts, the realtively new TFD-2 (Thermal Fingerprint Developer) is used alongside the long established ESDA2 (Electro-Static Detection Apparatus) in order to establish the optimum treatment sequence.
The ESDA2 technique is used to reveal indentations on documents using electro-static detection. The TFD-2, released in 2011, is a chemical-free technique used to reveal fingerprints on paper samples by thermal development.
