FragAnalyser, an interpretational tool intended to assist forensic experts evaluate the significance of refractive index data obtained from the analysis of glass fragments, is now available to download free of charge to Foster + Freeman GRIM and ffTA users.
The FragAnalyser program can import data from Foster + Freeman ffTA, GRIM 3 and GRIM 2 systems and enables the expert to group refractive index measurements from recovered items using operator defined grouping options and to compare each recovered group produced to control Items in a case using one of two match tests provided.
Many commonly used tests, such as the “within 3 standard deviations” or “within Control range” tests, do not require the RI data to be grouped. They simply require a point by point comparison of individual recovered results with the control. By grouping the recovered RI data before matching it is possible to increase both the efficiency and accuracy of RI matching.
