New examination system
for passport authentication
Foster & Freeman have added a new document
examination system to their range. The new instrument, called
VISPEC, has been designed for the examination of standard
security features in passports and travel documents by immigration
authorities.
Facilities available in VISPEC include incident
and transmitted visible illumination, long and short wave
incident UV illumination, transmitted long wave UV illumination,
co-axial lighting, for examining retro-reflective features,
and oblique illumination, for examining embossed stamps and
assessing the quality of intaglio printing. Unlike the company's
other document examination systems, however, VISPEC is not
equipped with an infrared imaging capability. Other applications
for the system include the authentication of banknotes and
identity cards with similar security features.
As a video based system, VISPEC offers a bright,
high contrast display, zoom magnification with close-ups to
×38 on the standard 14" monitor, image overlays for visual
comparisons and hard copy via an optional video printer. Fields
of view range from 8×6mm to 115×90mm.
