GRIM3 - glass RI measurement system
GRIM3 - glass RI measurement system

New GRIM goes on trial at ENFSI Seminar

The latest version of Foster & Freeman’s glass RI measurement system, GRIM3 was demonstrated at the European Network of Forensic Institution’s (ENFSI) September meeting in Spain, providing experts in the field with an opportunity of inspecting the new system and of offering suggestions for improvements before it finally goes into production. GRIM3 has been designed to take advantage of faster microprocessors and new high resolution imaging devices and features a new casework management system with enhanced facilities.

ENFSI, a body whose goal is to promote the development of forensic science technology in Europe, invited the company to make a presentation of the new equipment in support of papers on various aspects of glass RI measurement offered by delegates from Germany and the USA.

GRIM3 is a complete revision of the, now standard, forensic laboratory technique. New features include networking facilities, to enable reporting officers or laboratory supervisors to review casework remotely without interrupting operators, improved temperature stability for more accurate results and an improved casework database providing facilities to store glass fragment images and edge contrast/temperature traces with results.

The use of new high speed processors and improved software also enable the operator to make four independent RI measurements per instrument cycle, speeding casework and improving laboratory efficiency.
