Crime-lite and DCS-3

Crime-lite® & DCS3

South African police choose Crime-lite® & the DCS 3

The South African Police force is the latest law enforcement agency to choose Crime-lites, Mason Vactron’s new range of scene-of-crime forensic light sources. The initial contract is for 41 full Crime-lite® sets, to equip nine regional police forces, with more to follow as budgets are released.

Battery powered Crime-lites, weighing less than 500g, offer true portability and ease of use at the crime scene. Their intense radiant output is generated by, new technology, LEDs that provide narrow band emissions in the violet, blue, blue/green and green, designed to detect evidence such as fibres, body fluids and drugs as well as stained latent fingerprints. A white light model is also available for general search. Lasting, typically, 50,000 hours LED lamps rarely need to be replaced and provide a significant saving in equipment maintenance costs.

The supply contract also includes nine DCS 3s, Mason Vactron’s digital fingerprint recording system; a unique system that provides standard image processing functions, including complex FFT filters, in an easy-to-use system of ‘ toolboxes’. Each ‘toolbox’ is tailored to a specific type of latent print and prompts the operator to select and apply image enhancement software programmes in the correct sequence for best results. The system, now widely used in the UK, lowers the expertise threshold and reduces operator training significantly. The DCS 3 also includes the powerful Crime-lite® 4×4, the multi-wavelength forensic light source designed for photography.
