A bench top cyanoacrylate fuming cabinet for the safe and controlled development of latent fingerprints

Developing latent fingerprints using the cyanoacrylate fuming process is now faster and more convenient with Foster & Freeman's new bench top MVC™1000, the latest and smallest fuming cabinet to join the MVC™ range. The new cabinet retains all the benefits and safety features of the larger versions but has a complete processing time of only 30 minutes and is easy installed anywhere.

Manual or automatic operation
The MVC™1000 provides both manual and automatic modes of operation. Under manual control, each phase of the cyanoacrylate fuming process 'humidification', 'fuming' and 'fume extraction' is initiated separately, enabling the operator to extend or reduce the fuming process as required. Under automatic control each phase proceeds without operator intervention and according to preset parameters (cyanoacrylate fume exposure can be preset by the operator to between 3 and 99 minutes). During the fuming process, fans continually circulate the atmosphere in the chamber to ensure that fingerprint development is uniform while sensors monitor and control the internal humidity to maintain optimum conditions.

Self-contained fume cleansing system
Fume extraction is accomplished via an internal, fan-driven, activated carbon filter with the capacity to perform over 150 cleansing cycles per refill. The self-contained system avoids the need for expensive fume ducting systems and enables the cabinet to be re-sited with minimum disturbance.

Health and Safety features
The MVC™1000 is designed to provide a safe working environment, ensuring that the concentration of cyanoacrylate vapour in the atmosphere outside the cabinet is always below 0.3ppm, the recognised Occupational Exposure Standard for the substance.

A potential hazard of any cyanoacrylate fuming cabinet arises from the cyanoacrylate deposits that form on the internal surfaces of the cabinet. Outgassed vapour from these deposits, if allowed to build up, becomes a health hazard to the operator, exposing him to a potentially harmful concentration of cyanoacrylate vapour as soon as the door is opened. In the MVC™1000 this hazard is eliminated as the fume cleansing system is activated automatically for a short period every ten minutes to ensure the out-gassed vapours are removed.
